IQMS Observes Signs of Strong Growth in Plastics Manufacturing at K 2016 Show

Internet-connected devices, advanced materials, and a breadth of high-precision equipment will support new manufacturing opportunities as more plastics provide environmentally friendly solutions

PASO ROBLES, Calif.--()--The plastics industry appears poised for strong growth in 2017 according to indicators observed by IQMS, a leading manufacturing ERP software and manufacturing execution system (MES) authority that is meeting with plastics manufacturers at K 2016, which runs October 19 – 26, 2016.

K 2016, the world’s largest trade fair for the plastics and rubber industry, is seeing attendance run some 6.3% higher than the previous event in 2013, which drew more than 200,000 attendees from around the globe. Among the key observations IQMS has made from demonstrations on the floor and discussions with plastics manufacturers are:

  • Increasingly metal and natural materials are being replaced by polymer products that perform the same job better with a lower overall environmental footprint—providing opportunities for plastics manufacturers to expand their businesses.

  • Industry 4.0 is coming alive on the factory floor with more use of the Internet to connect different types of equipment than ever—providing insights to improve operations and enabling new business models.

  • Growing industry recognition that plastic is too valuable to be landfilled is driving a focus on minimizing scrap and recycling materials.

  • Automation and data science are empowering plastics manufacturers to drive the innovation and operational efficiencies that are critical to competing on the global market.

“The sheer scope of the technology on display at K 2016 surpasses all expectations, and it demonstrates that the plastics industry is set on a path of strong growth and innovation,” said Steve Bieszczat, IQMS CMO. “We are now engaging with our plastics manufacturing customers on how they can use our IQMS software to optimize their processes as they seek to capitalize on the state-of-the-art technologies on display at K 2016.”

IQMS, which has been delivering manufacturing enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions to the plastics industry for more than 25 years, is demonstrating at K 2016. The booth is located in the British Pavilion, Hall 5, A30 at the Messe Dusseldorf Exhibition Centre in Dusseldorf, Germany.

“The BPF is delighted to be hosting the British Pavilion the K 2016 show, which features a range of global companies based in or serving the UK plastics industry,” British Plastics Foundation Director Darren Muir. “With K 2016 poised to outperform the previous event, this has been a powerful platform for showcasing the innovation driving plastics manufacturing today.”
